Laughing Statues Vancouver

Laughing Statues Vancouver Overview
Laughing Statues: The delightful Laughing Statues installation at English Bay has become one of Vancouver’s most photographed public artworks, featuring a collection of bronze figures captured in moments of pure, uninhibited joy that seem to ripple contagiously through visitors who encounter them. Created by Chinese artist Yue Minjun, the Laughing Statues are officially titled “A-maze-ing Laughter” and consist of fourteen identical figures in various poses, each bearing the artist’s own exaggerated grinning face with eyes tightly closed in evident delight. Visitors cannot resist interacting with the Laughing Statues, mimicking their poses and facial expressions for photographs that capture the playful spirit this installation brings to Vancouver’s waterfront. The Laughing Statues were originally intended as a temporary installation for the 2009-2011 Vancouver Biennale but became so beloved that a generous donor provided funds to make the Laughing Statues a permanent fixture of the city’s landscape. Our Vancouver City Tour bus makes a convenient stop near the Laughing Statues, allowing visitors to experience this joyful artwork that has become an essential part of any Vancouver photo collection.
